Ever since I have moved to Eindhoven in 2011, I have been fascinated how much branding goes into this city. Eindhoven is branded as "City of light", "Design City" "Smartest City of the region" and there are even more of these labels. Ironically, Eindhoven has the dubious honor to be in the top five of most criminal cities of the Netherlands. The 'real' Eindhoven lies somewhere between the idealistic image Eindhoven is presenting and the fact that is one of the most criminal cities.

In this publication you take a visual tour through Eindhoven. Staring with the beautiful promoted utopian Eindhoven gradually into the more realistic city to the end into newspaper items of the criminal part of Eindhoven. 

 

The tactility changes with throughout the visual tour. The size of the segments reduce the more Eindhoven seems to lose its idealistic image. The paper changes along from glossy paper in the promotional segments to photo's printed on newspaper articles of criminality in Eindhoven.
